The trick is to hold the bottle so it wont spin and use the bottom of the switch to pull the cork out and the top of the switch to extract the cork from the opener. Real neat product. Push the button one way and it inserts and extracts the corks. Push the button the other way and it removes the cork from the unit. The unit is attractive and comes with it's own charging unit which sits on the countertop. I enjoy it so much I bought two more. One for backup and the other I gave as a gift to a friend.
